Recently there was an old friend who I had not seen in a long time, who showed up. It was good to see them and to talk to them. However, not everyone was happy to see them. This saddens me because as Christians we should never hold the past over someone. We need to be forgiving. (Ephesians 4:32, “And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.”) God forgave us of all of our sin. We need to forgive someone for the things they have done that isn’t even equal to all of our sin.
Hurt feelings can cause bitterness. Being critical and condemning them for the past, causes us to not see what God has done in our own lives. There by the grace of God go I.
I am not accountable for what someone else does. (Matthew 7:3, “And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?) I am accountable for what I do for the Lord. Not long ago I wrote about how I would want to be treated if that was me. I think we get high minded and forget that we are all capable of falling. I also think that if God allows someone to cross my path that I need to be the vessel God wants to use in their life somehow. I don’t have to spend time with them hanging out. I do however need to be kind while they are in my presence and show them Christ love.
We are all uniquely made by God. He loves us just the way we are. We need to learn to love each other like God loves us.
