How Long are You Saved?

Praise the Lord no surgery for my husband. God is good. He knows the beginning and the end. We just have to trust and go forward. Through all of this I have seen the hand of God in many different areas. Like talking to people at Church and sharing with them the possibilities of what might be. I have also talked with different family members and see God working through them to help me. Sometimes those conversations are to help them.

I want to share with you a really deep hearted conversation I had. Another family member was talking to me about Salvation. They have been faced with how to prove to someone that you cannot lose your salvation. The person they have been talking to, does not believe – once saved always saved.

There are so many views from so many different religions. But the most important view it the KJ Bible. God does not lie. In 1 John 5:13 it states, “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.” The word know means – to be aware of the truth or factuality of be convinced or certain of. God said we can know we have eternal life.

Not only can we know 100% sure, but in Romans 6:23 God said eternal life is a gift. (“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”) One thing I know about a gift is that it is absolutely free. I cannot do something good to get a gift and I do not pay for a gift. The only thing I have to do to make that gift mine is receive it. Once I receive a gift from someone, I do not go to them again and again to receive the same gift again.  The gift in this verse is Eternal life.  Eternal means forever there is no ending. So if the gift is eternal then I cannot lose it. Jesus gave his life to pay for my sin and purchase eternal life.

If salvation is something that we have one day and lose the next, why did Jesus die on the cross? God does not want us to guess – am I saved today or am I lost? He provided many scriptures so we can have assurance that when we die, we are going to Heaven. One of my favorite verses is Romans 10:13, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Nowhere in this verse does it say if I am good and do everything the Bible says I will be saved. God did not make it hard for us to be saved.

Jesus did all the hard work by going to the Cross dying for our sin so we would not have to go to Hell and pay for our own sin. In Romans 6:23 above it shows the penalty for our sin is death, (eternal separation from God). However the next word in that verse is but. That one three letter word means there is good news to follow. The good news is the gift of eternal life.
