Is How you Dress Important?

Exodus 28:2, “And thou shalt make holy garments for Aaron thy brother for glory and for beauty.”

If we read the whole chapter of 28, we see the details of the garments for Aaron and his sons for ministering in the Tabernacle. The garments that were made we beautiful. In verse five it states that: “And they shall take gold, and blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen.” These garments were made with the best material and with gold.

In the old testament, Aaron and his sons could not enter the Tabernacle without having on the special garments that were made. They had to be clean and look their very best as they entered. God would not accept the offering if it were not done properly. God would not bless the way he wanted to if it was not done according to the word of God.

As I read this chapter, I thought about how we dress for Church. Going to church is an event. It is a time to learn about the Lord. It is a time to receive what God has for us. We get to be in the Sanctuary of God. The Bible says that when we come together in the Lord’s name, He is there. We are entering the presence of the Lord. Just thinking about that is a humbling thought. He is the King of Kings, and the Lord of Lords. We should want to look our very best.

Yet many people come to church, dressed the same way they do in their everyday life. Church is a time to ease their conscience to do what is right, by attending church. Even their church attendance is menial at best. Most are Sunday morning glory flowers. Some will come occasionally to other services, but no real commitment. Church has become less important in the world. It is slowly taking a backseat to day-to-day selfishness.

Church is a very important time in our lives. Without Church we cannot know how to go to Heaven. Without the Bible we cannot learn how to live our lives properly. We need every aspect of what the Church has for us, in order to receive the blessings of the Lord. God blesses us, but he will bless us more when we obey his word. When we go to church, we should want to look our very best. We should want to learn more and more. We should desire to enter the Holiness of God.
