As a parent my children would always ask, question? Even when I have already made it plan what the rules were. Let me share a little story with you. I would buy donut holes for the kids sometimes. One day when I got the donut holes, I told the kids they had to wait. We had just bought a video recorder and I was trying to figure it out. My son comes in with his mouth full, asking for a donut. I told him that the donuts were for later and asked him what are you eating? In his little 3-year-old mind he said nothing and proceeded to ask for a donut. I asked him again what he had in his mouth and he finally said, “a donut”. I recorded it all. God records everything as well.
Sometimes we act like a little child always asking questions of the Lord, even though we already know what he said. Like in the book of Malachi, five times the children of Israel asked the question, “Wherein have we…?” Questioning the Lord. God called out their sin and they asked, when did we do that? The Bible tells us plainly when we have done wrong. The best verse is Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” The word all encompasses everyone, there is no exception. So, why do we question God when he points out our sin. God knows everything, he never changes. (Malachi 3:6, “For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.”) We are the ones who stray and do wrong. All we have to do is obey the word of God, do right and let God bless us. The last chapter of Malachi God lays out what he will do if we don’t ask and just do.
In the New Testament Jesus pointed out in Matthew 25: 41-46 “Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.” These verses point out what happens when we Ask and Don’t Do.
The good news is if we Do the opposite will happen. Matthew 25:34- “Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.”
Asking questions is not wrong. It is asking questions when you know you are wrong.
