Don’t beat your Donkey

There is a story in the Bible in Numbers 22:22-34 that talks about a donkey. Balaam beat his donkey three times. The donkey was protecting him from being destroyed by the Angel standing in the way.

When we have things happen to us we do not see what is ahead. When we get up set at our circumstances we fail to see that those circumstances could just be our donkey. For example: a traffic slow down, this could be the donkey protecting us from what is ahead. Getting upset is beating the donkey.

No matter what comes our way we need to look at everything and ask: why it is in our life? Even the little things can be used as a source of protection from what is around the corner. The path ahead is not clear to us, but God can see all the way to our final destination.

This brings to mind the verse in 1 Thessalonians 5:17, “Pray without ceasing.” If we are continually praying we will see what God wants us to see. We will not be so quick to beat the donkey in our life. We will see the purpose for all things in our life.

Look for the good in what seems bad. Seek the Lord and trust that he is protecting you from what is ahead.
