Have you every thought about how many times women are mentioned in the Bible? Or how they are mentioned? I did a search of nine words that are in the Bible that describe women.

The word Women is found in the Bible 176 times, 132 times in the old testament and 44 times in the new testament. The word Woman is found 337 times, 139 in the OT and 98 in the NT. Wife is found 370 times, 295 in the OT and 75 in the NT. Mother 299 times, 212 in the OT and 87 in the NT. Sister 124, 99 OT, 25 NT. Daughter 505, 474 OT, 31 NT. Maid, maiden, maidservant 95, 86 OT, 9 NT. Girl is only mentioned twice in the OT. The the negative word Harlot is mentioned 48 times, 40 in the OT and 8 in the NT.

I have been pondering on this subject of women in the Bible for awhile. I wrote on June 28, “What do you want your Obituary to Say?” Today I wanted to look statistically on the different ways words are used to describe a female. When I look at the amount of times God used the different words for a female, I see the importance of the female role. Every mention has a significance to how we can be what God wants us to be.

As you can tell shown above that the positive names are greater than the negative. There are times when God says a mothers name and follows that with, her son did right in his own eyes. To me that is a reflection of the mother. It does not mean that she was a bad mother, but it gives the impression she was. It is also says that in the opposite context that her son did right in the eyes of God. Does that make her a great mother? It gives the impression that she was.

This reminds me of the verse in 1 Thessalonians 5:22 “Abstain from all appearance of evil”. Everything we do as a woman, mother, daughter, sister, has to be purposefully done to not appear that we doing wrong. I know that if my children do wrong they made their own choice. I also know that people looking from the outside/ in, sometimes will see it differently. Trust me I have heard many a comment on this subject.

Weather it is raising out children, being a wife or whatever role you are in, you are only accountable to God for how you live your life. It does not matter what others opinions are. However, if we purposely are seeking to do it God’s way we will have less said on how we are living our life.

How important are you to God? Well approximately 1956 times in the Bible God is talking about the female. I would say we are important to God. Go to my writing about what you want you obituary to say and read more on God’s view of us as women.
