We hold others to a certain standard, but we do not hold ourselves to that standard.

We can never know what someone’s expectations of us are unless they tell us. So why do you think others will live up to your expectations of them if they do not know what those expectations are. I think sometimes we want people to read our minds. Not a good idea by the way. You don’t want to know what I am thinking sometimes. It is bad enough that God knows what we are thinking.

Anyway, my point is that, if we are always getting upset with others because they do not do what we are expecting. We will continue to fall short in our relationships with those around us. I am reminded that the only one that will be Judging me at the Judgment seat is God himself. I am accountable to God alone. When I live in fear of what someone else thinks or expects, then I miss out on the true blessings God has for me. When I am just trying to do my best for God alone, then God blesses to overflowing.

People will always fail us, but God will never leave us or forsake us. God created man to fellowship with him. I am not saying we cannot fellowship with one another. I am saying that our relationship with God is greater than our relationship with people. Without God I am nothing. I will accomplish more with God than on my own. God puts like minded people in our path sometimes to help us. We need to look at those relationships and nurture them through Christ.

When we do not put Christ first in all relationships, we then begin to see all the flaws and get upset over the tiny things. Sometimes when we get really close to people without God first, we have expectations that are quiet frankly unrealistic. We get all these ideas of how they should dress, how they should talk, and even controlling who they should talk to. To the point of obsession of holding them to a standard that we do not even live up to.

The bottom line is this:

We need to just do what God wants us to do and let others do what God wants them to do. We need to take care of our own life and walk with the Lord. If everyone is seeking to just walk with God then we will all be living up to God’s standard. That is all we need.
