Negativity At Work

Life is a funny thing. All around us are people of all walks of life. Everyone has different views of how things are or should be. But the most amazing thing to me is how negativity gets the most attention.

Let me tell you a Story.

There was a man who started a business, and it grew to be a very productive business. This of course means that he lived well and drove nice cars, etc. He has worked hard his whole life. Many say he should retire and stop working so much. But he likes to work and make his ideas grow to be more than just an idea. After all he did not get to where he was by just doing the minimum.

All around him are great minds who have contributed to the growth of his company. But, it is those people who become the most negative. Some say they would do things differently. Others just complain about everything. Everyone has an opinion. The real questions are this: If you can do better why are you working for the company? Why not start your own company? Some of those people have actually had their own company at times but are now working for him.

Now let me tell you a similar story found in Matthew 20 from the Bible.

There is a story about a man who owned a vineyard. He went out at the beginning of the day and hired men who were standing around. They agreed own a penny a day. Later he went out and found more men standing around and hired them. Throughout the day he continued to hire men to work. At the end of the day he had the men line up from the last worker hired to the first and paid them each a penny for the day. The worker who was hired at the beginning of the day thought that he should get more because he had worked all day and the last only worked a hour. This is what the owner said:

Matthew 20:13-15 “But he answered one of them, and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a penny? Take that thine is, and go thy way: I will give unto this last, even as unto thee. Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because I am good?” KJV

When we take a job we are agreeing to the policies of that company. We are agreeing to the wages they are offering. We need to just do our best and work hard. If we don’t like things the way they are we need to either keep our mouth shut or or go find a job that you like better.
