A Teachable Spirit

Humility

I find myself with people who no matter what you say they are going to do it their way. It reminds me of the Kings in the Bible. They did that, which was right in their own eyes. No matter what the prophets said to them they were going to do it their own way. The sad part of that is that their lives ended tragically.

There have been times in my own life that I did not want to listen because I thought I was right. However, I am trying to be more aware and listen to what others have to say. Then take what is said and pray. Prayer brings the defining answer to which way is right or not. God always gives us the true answer. I ask God to show me the things in my life that need to be changed. Asking questions like: Is what they are saying something I need to change? Why am I being defensive about this? How can this be fixed?

Asking questions in prayer and reading God’s word will always give you an answer. It may not be the answer you are looking for, but God will give you an answer. When we do this, we are humbling ourselves to God’s perfect will and have a teachable spirit. I have realized that I have a lot to learn. I do not have all the answers. The answers come from the reading of God’s word and from the preaching of God’s word. Sometimes God will reveal a simple truth with a heart-to-heart conversation with a sister or brother in Christ. Sometimes it is that still small voice of Holy Spirit speaking to our hearts.

We must open our hearts and minds. We must listen and learn something new every day. Seeking the Lord in ALL things.
