Think First

My son, if thine heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine. Yea, my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things. Proverbs 23:15-16

Many people speak first without thinking through what is right. God gave us two ears so we can listen more than we speak. To be wise in any situation you must think first, then do. When this is done in the right order then wisdom speaks. Sometimes people are just trying to get things done quickly and then have to redo what they just did. If they would have thought it through, and then did the task it would have been done correctly the first time.

Many would call this common sense. (Luke 14:28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?) No one ever just goes out and starts building something without thinking it through. Making plans of what it will look like. Making sure you have enough building materials to finish the job. No one ever just plows through without thinking first. This is common sense.

There are no short cuts in life. Everything is done in a certain order. (1 Corinthians 14:40 Let all things be done decently and in order.) As children grow, they learn their letters and numbers. They start by saying what they know. Then as they learn they learn the letters and numbers in order. Life never changes the order. Growing up there were phrases like: “Don’t count your chickens before they hatch.” or “Don’t put the cart before the horse.” These principles were taught to show there is an order to everything that is done.

Each day should have an order. How you start they day, all the way to how you end the day. With everything in order life is more productive and less stressful. With order there is good health and more happiness. This productivity is brought on by thinking first and then doing. At the end of each day you can pillow your head and rest well knowing you did things right the first time.

Stop, Think and then Do
