Every day we are faced with decisions. Over the years I have seen many people make decisions that helped them to soar to great success. I have also seen people make decisions that wreck their life.
How do we know that the decision we are making is the right one? What are some guidelines that would help us choose the right path?
The best way to know how to make the right choice, it through the word of God. Our walk with God helps us make better choices. Throughout the Bible we see how God blessed abundantly when the people prayed and asked what they should do. Every time they prayed and did it the way God said, there was great Victory. The other is also true, in that when they did it on their own, they failed. Only through the Lord do we make right choices.
Many people fail and then blame God. They make a statement like, “why would God allow this to happen? or If God is a loving God, this would not have happened”. When we fail, we do not always admit that we are wrong. When the Lord is not number one in our lives, we try to put the blame everywhere except where the blame goes. If you feel you must defend yourself and explain why something is right or wrong, you are denying the truth. The truth is we are selfish and without the Lord we are nothing.
King David is a great example of what happens when you have a walk with the Lord and mess up. David was quick to admit that he was at fault. Why was he able to do this? The bible states that David was a man after God’s own heart. David had a walk with the Lord. When those weak moments came and he messed up, he admitted to God he was wrong. This kind of humility only comes when we are reading our Bible daily and praying. When we are seeking the Lord and begging for his guidance.
We cannot rely on our flesh making the right decisions. On our own we are no match for the darts that the devil throws at us. We are not strong enough to stand on our own. We are like little children who need an adult to hold their hand to keep them safe. There is a song “I Can’t Even Walk Without You Holding My Hand”. What a great message of how strong the Lord is and how much we need Him.
Our number one priority is to spend time with God each morning. To pray throughout the day, and To seek God in all things. If we can do this, we will make better decisions. We should pray and ask the Lord to, Empty Me of Me and fill me with You!
