Ezekial 14:20 “Though Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, as I live, saith the Lord God, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall but deliver their own souls by their righteousness.”
This chapter outlines sin and trespassing, noisome beasts, pestilence, and a sword upon the land. All of which will cut off man and the land be desolate. The Lord makes this observation “Though Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it…” Four times he says this about Noah, Daniel and Job. All four times he tells us that though they were in it, they would be accountable for themselves. Verse twenty even states that they will not deliver their son or daughter, only themselves.
Each person is responsible for their own righteousness. For me to be righteous before God, I must admit my own sin against him. I cannot speak for anyone else. Every word I say, every action that I commit I make the choice to do it. When the judgment comes, no one will stand before God on my behalf. I alone will stand before him for all I do and say.
The first action is admitting to God I am a sinner, I cannot get to heaven on my own. I must ask him to give me the gift of eternal life. Jesus died and rose from the grave to pay for our sins. This death also purchased the gift of eternal life. We must accept this gift, to go to Heaven. If we never do that, we die and go to Hell.
Jesus’ blood makes us righteous. This is a decision we make on our own. We have two choices, Heaven or Hell. No one can make us accept the gift of Heaven. Once we have Eternal life, we then begin a journey. Every day we choose to follow the Lord or do our own thing.
As a parent I could make my child take out the trash, but it was his choice to do it with the right attitude or not. None of us can make someone do something with the right attitude. It is that person’s own choice on how he does what he has been given to do. Just like Noah, Daniel and Job, we make the final decision on own.
